BILLING OF MATERIAL REFERENCE NUMBER, COMMENTS AND CROSS REFERENCE ITEM NUMBER

Bill of Material Reference Numbers and Comments encourage Engineering and Manufacturing to communicate by adding comments and reference numbers to the Bill of Material Reports and Inquiries, Shop Packet Worksheets, and Cross Reference Item Numbers.

The Comments are designed to include relevant information such as Engineering Change Order status, "special handling" or assembly instructions, component shortages or UL approved substitutes.

Unlimited Reference Numbers for any parent component relationship provides additional flexibility. The reference numbers usually refer to drawing reference or "bubble numbers" in the manufacturing of components. Comments may be entered for any structure component to inform assemblers of special installation instructions or upcoming component changes.

Straight forward manufacturing environments use the Bill of Material Reference Number and Comments for operation descriptions in lieu of MAPICS PC&C.

	For any Parent/Component Relationship, allow for: Unlimited 6-character reference designators or "bubble numbers" Unlimited 48-character comments
	Multiple Reference Numbers may be used for one parent/component relationship
	Includes Phantom Item Number capability
	Include the AVE Reference Number and Comments on MAPICS Reports Single Level Product Structure Retrievals (may be printed in standard or reference  number sequence) Indented Bill of Material Retrievals Shop Packet Worksheets Material Picking Lists

	The Reference Number, Comments Maintenance, and Cross Reference Item Number are fully integrated into the MAPICS Product Structure Maintenance, eliminating the requirement for a separate maintenance function. The Product Structure Maintenance includes same as except, mass replace, mass delete, structure delete, component delete, component add and component change.
	The Cross Reference Item Number has been added to all pertinent inquiries and reports for the parent and component Item Numbers
	Fully Integrated into MAPICS
	All non-MAPICS files are externally described providing greater ease of use with Query
	This  Enhancement may be installed in Multiple Environments

AVE maintains the reference numbers and comments in separate files and thus ADDS to the basic MAPICS functions, rather than replace certain functions. Further, where additional data is required (multiple drawing references for a single component, item interchangeability, etc.), ample space is provided to tell a complete story.
